When both IP addresses aren’t responding the script changes the distance of the primary and secondary route. If one of them fails to respond there could be a problem with that specific IP address, not with the internet line. This script checks two IP addresses (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 in this case). :set msg "Pings reachable, switching back to primary gateway with setting distance to 1" :set msg "Pings not reachable, switching to secondary gateway with setting distance to 1" # check the distance of the primary default gateway static route I was inspired with the failover from Steve Discher and Michael Bear, I changed the script a little bit.įirst I added this script to the Mikrotik router (System -> Scripts): And pinging the gateway was not the way for me. I wanted the most stable failover I could think of, in my opinion that is by pinging multiple IP addresses. There are several ways to do a failover in RouterOS.

If too high, virtual machine I/O fairness can be affected and high-volume workloads can affect other workloads from other virtual machines or other hosts. If the queue depth limit is set too low, IOPS and throughput can be limited and latency can increase due to queuing. This dictates how many I/Os can be outstanding to a given device before I/Os start queuing in the ESXi kernel. For high-performance configuration, refer to the section of this document on ESXi queue configuration.ĮSXi offers the ability to configure queue depth limits for devices on an HBA or iSCSI initiator. The FlashArray doesn’t have a volume queue depth limit, so now that bottleneck has been moved back to ESXi and its internal queues.Īltering VMware queue limits is not generally needed with the exception of extraordinarily intense workloads. This, in turn, moved the bottleneck down to the array volume queue depth limit. ESXi was once the bottleneck due to its locking mechanism, then it fixed that with ATS. The main point is that there is always a bottleneck somewhere, and when you fix that bottleneck, it is transferred somewhere in the storage stack. From a FlashArray perspective, there is no immediate performance benefit to using more than one volume for your virtual machines. A single FlashArray volume can offer the full performance of an entire FlashArray, so provisioning ten volumes instead of one, is not going to empty the HBAs out any faster. This is not the case with the FlashArray.Ī FlashArray volume is not limited by an artificial performance limit or an individual queue. This limited what a single volume could do from a performance perspective as compared to what the array could do in aggregate. The introduction of ATS removed scaling limits via the removal of lock contention thus, moving the bottleneck down to the storage, where many traditional arrays had per-volume I/O queue limits. High intensity virtual machine operations such as boot storms, or virtual disk growth.Extremely dynamic environments-numerous provisioning and de-provisioning of VMs (e.g.The standard use cases benefiting the most from ATS include: Therefore, situations with large amounts of simultaneous virtual machine provisioning operations will see the most benefit. ATS allows for ESXi hosts to no longer queue metadata change requests, which consequently speeds up operations that previously had to wait for a lock. This behavior makes the metadata change process not only very efficient, but more importantly provides a mechanism for parallel metadata access while still maintaining data integrity and availability. With VAAI ATS, the lock granularity is reduced to a much smaller level of control (specific metadata segments, not an entire volume) for the VMFS that a given host needs to access. This behavior not only caused metadata lock queues but also prevented standard I/O to a volume from VMs on other ESXi hosts which were not currently holding the lock. In a cluster with multiple nodes, all metadata operations were serialized and hosts had to wait until whichever host, currently holding a lock, released that lock. Prior to the introduction of VAAI ATS, VMFS used LUN-level locking via full SCSI-2 reservations to acquire exclusive metadata control for a VMFS volume. VMware resolved the first issue with the introduction of Atomic Test and Set (ATS), also called Hardware Assisted Locking. Per-volume queue limitations on the underlying array. This limit traditionally was due to two reasons: In the past a recommendation to use a larger number of smaller volumes was made for performance limitations that no longer exist. Using a smaller number of large volumes is generally a better idea today. The FlashArray supports far larger than that, but for ESXi, volumes should not be made larger than 64 TB due to the filesystem limit of VMFS. A common question when first provisioning storage on the FlashArray is what capacity should I be using for each volume? VMware VMFS supports up to a maximum size of 64 TB. In a standard, basic match of the average MOBA game, each team of five begins on either the lower-left or upper-right corner of the map. Finally, there’s the jungler, but to explain their role, we’ll have to first explain how the game is played. Contrary to popular belief, the support is one of the most important roles in the game, even if no one ever wants to play. For the second half of the match, the support extends their powers to the entire team, healing and buffing as needed. The support, meanwhile, typically sticks by the AD Carry’s side for the first half of the game, healing and applying buffs to boost their carry’s power. A good tank can defend his team in a face-off and live to tell the tale. The tank is the opposite of a carry while his attack and magic powers are often quite low, he specializes in defense and absorbing hits without dying. That’s where two more roles come in: the tank and the support. While these two character roles typically claim the most kills, they’re also susceptible to the most deaths in the game, as their defense is often quite weak. The AD Carry and AP Carry are typically the main damage dealers of the game, with the AD focusing on using melee and physical attacks, while the AP uses magic and spells. Like with any competitive game, most players have a standard character type they play, and MOBAs are no different players usually fall into one of five archetypes. Each team member chooses a separate character, and that character fulfills a necessary role on the team. The MOBA, or multiplayer online battle arena genre, is a competitive team-based online game in which, in typical standard matches, teams of five face off against each other on a large map. If you’re unaware, allow us to fill you in with a quick guide to the basic guidelines of this genre (and for experts and legacy players out there, understand that this is a basic guide to MOBAs!). The MOBA scene is popular, competitive, and a whole lot of fun. As a genre of game, it’s quickly become one of the most popular-and controversial-game types on the market today, and it’s easy to see why. Since the rise of both titles in the late 2000s and early 2010s, dozens of different MOBAs and MOBA-likes have arrived on the scene, on PC, MacOS, consoles, and even iOS and Android phones. As a genre, the MOBA has moved from an unknown niche community all the way to a worldwide phenomenon, responsible for sweeping along the entire competitive gaming scene and building eSports from an underground community to receiving championship coverage on ESPN and awarding multi-million dollar cash prizes at the top conferences for both League of Legends and DotA 2. It can be used for audio applications in several environments such as recording studios, post production, DJ's mixes, and more. We all get a little sick and the world continues. If you feel the worst image taking shape, make yourself think of the best image. The goal is to find balance in the things you’re thinking. Our goal is not to ignore those images or to try to make them go away - your mind won’t let you do that and it can be painful to try and force it. Unhealthy anticipatory grief is really anxiety, and that’s the feeling you’re talking about. Are there techniques to deal with that to make it less intense? When we’re feeling grief there’s that physical pain. This is happening I have to figure out how to proceed.Īcceptance, as you might imagine, is where the power lies. There’s bargaining: Okay, if I social distance for two weeks everything will be better, right? There’s sadness: I don’t know when this will end. There’s anger: You’re making me stay home and taking away my activities. There’s denial, which we say a lot of early on: This virus won’t affect us. It’s not a map but it provides some scaffolding for this unknown world. But whenever I talk about the stages of grief, I have to remind people that the stages aren’t linear and may not happen in this order. Understanding the stages of grief is a start. What can individuals do to manage all this grief? We are grieving on a micro and a macro level. Individually or as smaller groups, people have felt this. I don’t think we’ve collectively lost our sense of general safety like this. Our primitive mind knows something bad is happening, but you can’t see it. With a virus, this kind of grief is so confusing for people. Anticipatory grief is also more broadly imagined futures. We feel it when someone gets a dire diagnosis or when we have the normal thought that we’ll lose a parent someday. Anticipatory grief is that feeling we get about what the future holds when we’re uncertain. Yes, we’re also feeling anticipatory grief. You said we’re feeling more than one kind of grief? We are not used to this kind of collective grief in the air. The loss of normalcy the fear of economic toll the loss of connection. Just as going to the airport is forever different from how it was before 9/11, things will change and this is the point at which they changed. We know this is temporary, but it doesn’t feel that way, and we realize things will be different. We feel the world has changed, and it has. Kessler: Yes, and we’re feeling a number of different griefs. Is it right to call some of what they’re feeling grief? HBR: People are feeling any number of things right now. The conversation is lightly edited for clarity. Kessler shared his thoughts on why it’s important to acknowledge the grief you may be feeling, how to manage it, and how he believes we will find meaning in it. He is the founder of which has over 5 million visits yearly from 167 countries. His volunteer work includes being an LAPD Specialist Reserve for traumatic events as well as having served on the Red Cross’s disaster services team. Kessler also has worked for a decade in a three-hospital system in Los Angeles. His new book adds another stage to the process, Finding Meaning: The Sixth Stage of Grief. He co-wrote with Elisabeth Kübler-Ross On Grief and Grieving: Finding the Meaning of Grief through the Five Stages of Loss. Kessler is the world’s foremost expert on grief. We turned to David Kessler for ideas on how to do that. If we can name it, perhaps we can manage it. One colleague mentioned that what she felt was grief. But we also talked about how we were feeling. We talked about the content we’re commissioning in this harrowing time of a pandemic and how we can help people. Some of the HBR edit staff met virtually the other day - a screen full of faces in a scene becoming more common everywhere. When the latter form is used reflexively, as in "You're wasting your time", the implication is that you are doing something that you think is worthwhile but I'm telling you that it is not.In these difficult times, we’ve made a number of our coronavirus articles free for all readers. With a pronoun, we can talk about "wasting my time" or "wasting your time". When used without a possessive pronoun ("wasting time") it implies that somebody is doing something that makes themselves late (and often others as well). He wasted time putting everything away before he would come. It tends to be used when the delay is by somebody's action, rather than by an accident or bad luck. "Waste time" does not necessarily imply a deadline: there may be one, but there need not. We lost half an hour looking for the passports. It is typically, though not necessarily, something outside the person's control. "Lose time" is used when there is an urgency to do something or get somewhere by some particular deadline, and some hold-up happens. They're very different, though there are some circumstances where both could apply. Good to Know: See splattering in action (along with other painting techniques such as scraping, stippling and sponging) while creating a gorgeous autumn scene in our class, Nature in Watercolor: Painting Trees. Next time you want to paint stars in the sky, splatter them!.Think of it like an accent color on your painting, and be deliberate when you use it. Feel free to use multiple colors! This will give your splatter depth and visual excitement.Dilute your acrylic paint with a little water to make splattering easier. It can be complex or simple (even as simple as a strip of masking tape), but make sure there’s plenty of positive space around it so the extra paint won’t get on your canvas. Use when: you want to control exactly where your splatter paint fallsĬontrol is a big challenge when splattering paint, but a stencil can help. (You may want to put on gloves first.) Go slowly and pull the bristles back so they launch paint onto the canvas. With your opposite hand, run your fingers along the edge of the brush. Hold it at a downward angle, so the bristles are pointed toward the ground. Then, dip a paintbrush in every cup and give them to your kids. Put the colors in the plastic cups, add water, and stir with a spoon. You just need some paintbrushes, acrylic paints, and cups. Use when: you want to cover smaller areas and have smaller flecks of splatter paintįill the bristles of a toothbrush or a stiff-bristled brush with pigment. The coolest way to work on a splatter art project is to get a huge canvas and lay it out in the backyard for your kids to splatter paint on it. This will give the paint enough force to travel across your canvas. The more paint you load the brush with and the harder you flick it with your wrist, the more lines and. I simply dipped a brush in to get plenty of paint on it, and then I flicked it toward the canvas. Gently tap it with a second brush (or stick, or even your fingers) with your opposite hand. Step 3: Start splattering And then it’s time to start paint splattering I just used an assortment of regular paintbrushes for this project. Use when: you want to cover a large surface with splatter paintįill the bristles of a paint brush with pigment. Pro Tip: Wear your designated painting clothes and move away any objects you want to keep clean - you never know where the pigment will fly! 1.
